| Save Our Homes portability back in play for tax cuts
Mike Haridopolos, a Melbourne Republican, is confident something can be done to reduce property taxes more. ''There's nothing new out there and we're just looking for the right tools in the toolbox to get us the necessary 30 votes in the Senate,'' Haridopolos said, adding ``everyone's talking about property taxes.'' The governor first pushed a portability plan on the campaign trail, but lawmakers rejected it in their spring session as impractical, because it gave Florida residents an unequal and potentially unconstitutional advantage over newcomers. Unlike the regular session, when the governor was more cheerleader than negotiator on property taxes, Crist is now working behind closed doors to aggressively push portability and a plan to double the homestead exemption, which could cost local governments statewide about $2 billion a year.

I mean, I like a good offbeat comedy as much as the next person, but several here not only set the bar low, but also eliminated the bar altogether and at times forced me to go to one. So, without any further ado, enjoy these turkeys and know that if you have trouble falling asleep, you can rent any of these to assist you in dozing off, but be warned: Some of these flicks could induce a coma. "Daddy Day Camp" (PG-13) (Should have been titled: "Mom Should Get Custody, or Daddy Should Have Worn a Raincoat") Why is it that studios insist on making sequels when the original star won't do it? Oh, right, the money factor. People won't miss the original actor if he doesn't appear in the sequel. I'm not a huge fan of Keanu Reeves, but at least he proved he had some integrity by not appearing in "Speed 2." Sorry, Sandra.

They have a mental disorder--they cannot stop themselves from eating too much. The laws of physics dictate that if you put less matter into a system then you take out, the system will loose mass. If obese people ate appropriately, they would lose weight. The diet program that I use personally is foolproof. I have a target weight of 165 lbs. and if I am above it, I eat less and if I am under it, I eat more. No exercise, rabbit food, or crazy fad is required. .

Bryant's fans' memories, Part Three
I guess that you would have to put me in the group that considered Bear almost deity. As a child growing up in the '60s and '70s I fully expected Alabama to win every single game and in no small part due to the Bear'sgreat leadership and ability to motivate. I love the quote that has been linked to Frank Broyles and Darrell Royal, which says, " He can take his'n and beat your'n or take your'n and beat his'n." I can still see him with his houndstooth hat on leaning on the goalpost watching pregame warmups. I can still remember what I was doing when I heard that he died. I was in Community Health class my junior year in college. I was devastated. Bear you will remain in my heart forever. Roll Tide Roll! .
Undernews Alert: Obama
Sometimes an NPR show can upend your expectations and convince you that ordinary Americans can be brilliant observers and even entertainers. StoryCorps is not that show, I think. Every story I've heard on it has been lame. When do the grants run out? ... 2:51 A.M. ___________________________ Giuliani, the New Ideas Candidate? Sara Mosle recently reminded everyone of a key, overlooked moment in Giuliani's career: after his prostate cancer diagnosis, he decided to employ New York City's trademark Comp Stat policing technique to "aggressively recruit greater numbers of uninsured children for coverage under two existing government-run programs: Medicaid and Child Health Plus." Mosle--and later Sara Kershaw of the NYT--used this incident to paint Giuliani as a hypocritical candidate.

28TH & HENNEPIN Plans to incorporate the Walker Library and the Isles Allina Medical Clinic into an expanded YWCA community center near 28th Street and Hennepin Avenue are dead for now. The idea, which the YWCA has discussed for about a year, proved to be too complicated to allow the center to continue providing services during construction. It would have had to shut down for a couple years, forcing its members to go elsewhere. "While there was deep political support for this and neighborhood support, we determined it was too much of an operational challenge," said real estate consultant Caren Dewar, who worked with the YWCA to evaluate development possibilities. Would you donate your body to Gordon Brown?
In the context of today, I am less than keen on Brown's proposal to introduce a system of presumed consent. It could only shift the balance further away from the principle of personal autonomy and choice towards the assumption that the authorities know what is best for us – an increasingly prevalent notion in our culture, particularly around health issues. More concretely perhaps, whereas a campaign for more donations to medical science could win widespread public support, trying to impose such a formal rule risks further complicating relations between patients and medical staff, with the potential to deepen feelings of public mistrust and alienation. The government must bear a heavy responsibility for bringing about this unsatisfactory situation in the first place. New Labour now poses as the champion of organ donation for the greater good, with the support of leading medical bodies.
