We'd love to show you photos from Seacrest's gridiron glory, but his mother, Connie, told Buzz she already had sent the incriminating shots to her son's business office since Fox had requested them. Connie said she always worried about her son getting hurt in high school and was relieved when he escaped unscathed. "I think he really gets a kick out of doing the Super Bowl," she said. "He can talk the talk. He knows the lingo." Seacrest won't say whether he's favoring the Giants or the Patriots, but said his clearest childhood memory was rooting for the Chicago Bears wearing a William "Refrigerator" Perry jersey as an 11-year-old. Now that's a photo we wish we had. LOCALS ON BRAVO The folks at Bravo are pretty tight-lipped about two new contestants appearing on Season 4 of the popular series "Top Chef," but we know who they are: Atlanta chefs Richard Blais and Nimma Osman.
Good Jobs Are Where the Money Is
The peak income year for the bottom 90 percent of Americans was way back in 1973 - when the average income per taxpayer (adjusted for inflation) was $33,001. That is nearly $4,000 higher than the average in 2005. It's incredible but true: 90 percent of the population missed out on the income gains during that long period. Mr. Johnston does not mince words: "The pattern here is clear. The rich are getting fabulously richer, the vast majority are somewhat worse off, and the bottom half - for all practical purposes, the poor - are being savaged by our current economic policies." His words are echoed in a proposed stimulus plan currently offered by the Economic Policy Institute in Washington. (The plan is available on its Web site, epi.org.) Stressing that any stimulus package should be "fair," the authors of the institute's proposal wrote: "The distribution of wages, income and wealth in the United States has become vastly more unequal over the last 30 years.

Web sites stripped of medical-device claims
As news spread of two federal investigations into dubious medical devices used throughout the Northwest, distributors and operators have purged their Web sites of the fraudulent claims that are under scrutiny. Two investigations, one by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the other by a U.S. House Energy and Commerce subcommittee, are focusing on two machines detailed in a recent Seattle Times investigation. The three-day series revealed how manufacturers and practitioners profit from treating people with unproven or fraudulent machines, some of them potentially dangerous, others illegal. The report detailed victims of a growing and largely unregulated field called "energy medicine" — alternative therapies based on the belief that the body has energy fields that can be manipulated to improve health.

Since Bryant was the athletic director (McKay would become USC's A.D. in 1972, but already had the authority to schedule the game) and the 11th-game opponent had not been chosen by either school, he had an "inkling" of what to expect. The fact that Alabama was segregated and USC was integrated was like a proverbial elephant standing in the corner of the Horizon Room of Western Airlines when Bryant arrived for their meeting. USC carried star black players from New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and California. The best black athletes in the world were from the Golden State. One of the first black quarterbacks in the NFL, Doug Williams, had grown up a Trojan fan because McKay had used a black quarterback, Jimmy Jones. "I told [assistant coach] Marv Goux that I didn't know what Bear was up to, but the whole thing had the feel of a spy novel," McKay recalled in 2000.
