Mottram betters Gebrselassie record

CRAIG MOTTRAM had the thrill of replacing Ethiopian great Haile Gebrselassie in the record books yesterday when he ran the fastest indoor 3000m ever seen in the United States.

Mottram powered to victory at the Boston Indoor Games in 7min 34.50sec, erasing the American all-comers record of 7:35.24, set in 2004 by Gebrselassie, who is considered one of the greatest distance runners of all time.

The tiny Ethiopian was a dual Olympic gold medallist in the 10,000m, a one-time world record-holder in the 5000m and 10,000m, and last year ran the fastest marathon ever.

For Mottram, on the comeback after a disappointing 2007, the victory was also a personal best and new Australian record, bettering by nearly five seconds his previous mark of 7:39.25, which he ran at the same venue a year ago.

Virginia Tech vet chosen to care for Olympic horses

A recent addition to the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech will be spending next summer in China, caring for horses in the 2008 Olympics.

After a veterinary career that took him from his native Australia to Washington State University and back, David Hodgson and his family relocated to Blacksburg this summer. He heads the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the vet school.

Hodgson specializes in internal medicine and has a doctorate in equine sports medicine. But he and the other vets at the games will treat a variety of ailments, from leg injuries to coughs and colds commonly suffered by horses after a long trip.

Stevie Wonder and John Mayer Sing for Toys

Get rid of this other nonsense on here TMZ...as if Mayer and Wonder need any more accolades. They should be giving more of their own gobs of wealth instead of begging on the public all the time. They're worse than Educational Television. Well maybe not so much Wonder, but why dont they all do a Warren Buffet and leave their money to good causes and people instead of dogs and relatives. Sorry, just pisses me off this has top billing when Dan died at 6a.m. this morning.
