| Reader comments: Don't demonize alcohol
Asking some people to handle alcohol responsibly only brings a curious look to their face. The highly acclaimed author, Stephen King, wrote about his alcohol addition in his book, "On Writing". On page 95 of the book, King tells this story: <<"How much do you drink?" the councellor asked. My friend looked at the councellor with disbelief, "All of it", he said, as if that should have been self-evident.">> Say what you want about moderation. Say what you want about "proper training". For some people it just does not work. How many people, who drive drunk and end up in an accident, told themselves, "I'm too drunk to drive, so I'd better get someone to drive me home."? Clever marketing by the alcohol industry should mean greater caution on the part of those who sell alcohol.

When ever you want the biggest change, you don't go after the smallest items. The end result.......the top25 offenders probably won't be sports cars. They'll be Trucks and SUV's.The end of the big V8 dead? So far from the truth. There are advantages to forced induction (turbocharing and supercharging) but issues as well. There is an old addage, "there's no replacement for displacement". So true. NA engines will deliver signifigantly more torque than their equal powered turbo'd counterparts. Torque is what gives acceleration response, which consumers have become accustomed to.Now for those horrible American engines:For example:2008 Mitsu Evo X:2.0L 4cyl Turbo 320hp16city/22highway2008 Corvette6.2L 8cyl 436hp18city/28highwayAnd now for that same engine in a much heavier car:2008 Cadallac CTS-V6.2L 8cyl 430hp17city/25highway (2007 models were 15/24)Which would you rather have? Less power in a small turbo engine, with poorer fuel economy, or more power in a more fuel efficient engine.

Staph bacteria are commonly behind minor skin infections that show up as pimples or boils. Those infections can usually be treated with medication. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, called MRSA or "the superbug," does not always respond to medication, although it can also be treatable. It is mostly frequently transmitted by skin-to-skin contact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. You should call a doctor if a sore is enlarging and has increasing drainage, says Dr. Jeffrey A. Jahre, chairman of the department of medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa. Also call a doctor if the sore is associated with symptoms such as fever, chills or rash. WHO IS MOST AT RISK? People with an open wound who come in contact with the staph bacteria are at highest risk to contract the infection, Jahre says.

When you immigrate, you make a decision that affects your offspring for generations. When you invite immigrants, you make a decision that not only affects the immigrants' offspring, but that of your own. Immigrants need to take responsibility for raising their children in a manner befitting their new country and face the reality that they've put things from their old country behind them, without expecting the host country to accommodate every last one of their needs. Host countries need to take responsibility for the fact that they didn't, and still don't, want to scrub toilets, pick fruit, sweep floors and clean streets because they believed they have somehow evolved to the zenith of humanitarianism, while forgetting that reconstruction involves more than just a coffee break whenever the going gets tough.

America: The promising
Overall, I would have to say, Asia is seen as the future here while there is a big, big question mark hanging over the U.S.Does any of this matter? I think it does.Davos brings together about 2,500 leaders from business, finance, government, the academy, journalism and the like. One can dismiss them as elites, but for better or for worse, elites do play a significant role in shaping the course of events. If you believe, as I do, that it is critical to the future of the globe that the U.S. become once again a power to whom others turn with respect and for leadership, we need to pull ourselves back up.We don't need to be the world's only superpower -- we have to respect the right of others to share join leadership -- but it will be a much more threatening world for our kids and grandkids if others rise and we continue on a downhill slope.
